ut I drove it and then I was hooked. Despite of this I sold the car after a year because every month I almost got sick of the amount of road-tax I had to pay. For a Citroen Berlingo with a grey registration certificate (this means that it is originally a company car) the road-tax was only 12 Euros a month, so I was unfaithful...
ut that only lasted 2 long years... because then people like me, with a company car without a company, suddenly had to pay a lot more road-tax. And of course then the Mercedes Virus became active again, a thing I immediately reported to Eric of Veencars. The new Mercedes had to be an oldtimer (a W123, because of all the beautiful chroom), because with an oldtimer I didn't have to pay road-tax and the car insurance would be cheap. At a certain point Eric called me with the announcement that he had a customer for my Berlingo and that he had a good 'in-between-Mercedes' for me. So we swapped (and I got some money with it, so that was not too bad) and now the serious search for an oldtimer started, because the road-tax for this 200 D(iesel) was high enough :-)
he oldtimer Mercedes W123 I found close to home, in Ternaard, a beautiful German mimosengelbe 200 D, with towing-hook. I bought the car after Eric, me and the salesman took a look at the car in the garage of Veencars. The prize was 750 Euros less then the salesman asked, because a lot had to be welded for the APK (a yearly check up for cars) and because I had to get the Dutch registration certificate myself. The mimosengelbe is APK inspected at the RDW, when the car was there for the registration certificate. When the mechanics started welding the car it took them 3 weeks, because more and more damage became visible, things even the RDW had not seen. But everything ended up right, see the picture below with my 'in-between-Mercedes' and the mimosengelbe at Veencars (and continue reading below the picture; it is only a couple of lines more so the end is near ;-).

he continuation? On a regular basis I sell stuff on junk markets and I regularly transport big things, and in the mimosengelbe I simply didn't have enough space. With pain in my heart (because the mimosengelbe was a great car) I decided to search for a station wagon. It took time and (too much) money, but as you have seen above I nowadays drive around in an American coloradobeige 300 TD from 1979.
