The Persian Longhair (Persian) is a gentle cat that needs lots of care. To maintain the coat in great condition (like long hair with a woman) a Persian needs to be brushed and combed every day. It is a gentle cat and a happy companion The Persian loves to look from a distance what we human beings are doing. Persians love to be around people.
The Persian has a short, cobby body, massive but elegant, with a straight back, a deep chest, a short but strong neck and a big round head. The short, thick legs have big round feet, on which the toes are placed closely together. The tail is short, round at the top and the size has to fit the body.

The head has a firm chin, full cheeks and a nose with width and a deep stop. The eyes have to be round and big but the ears are small. Like the eyes the ears are far apart; ears are placed low on the head and the ear shelves have a small opening.
The coat of the Persian is rich and silky, around the neck the coat is full (like a male lion); ears and tail have lots of hair.
Hair on forehead, cheeks and point of nose and chin must be on one line when you look at the cat en profile. Distance between nose-mouth-chin must be same as height of forehead. The ideal nose is shaped in a square (length X width). The lower jaw can have a bite, but no more then 1 millimeter.

A Persian Longhair in a 'short jacket', that's an Exotic. It is a gentle cat and a happy companion The Exotic loves to look from a distance what you are doing. Exotics love to be around people.

The breeding standard of the Exotic is about the same as the one from the Persian Longhair, but for the coat the standard is different (Fife breeding standard): hairs dense, structure fine and soft, volume in the coat because of the density. Bit longer then coat of the British Shorthair, but not so long that it has waves.

FIFe-standard (Persian and Exotic, except for the coat)

GENERAL	size	Medium-large cat.
HEAD	shape	Round and massive, in balance, very wide skull.
	forehead	Round.
	cheeks	Full.
	nose	Short, wide, with a very good stop. Nose bridge and nose mirror have to be wide. Nostrils have to be open because breathing has to be easy. Stop must be in-between eyes, but not above the upper eyelid and not beneath the lower eyelid.
	chin	Strong chin.
	jaws	'Big' and powerful.
	expression	Friendly and open.
EARS	shape	Small, with round top and lots of hair.
	place	Far apart from each other; place of ears is low.
EYES	shape	Big, round, alert, far apart.
	color	Brilliant en expressive, have to fit with color of coat but color has to be pure.
NECK		Short and firm.
BODY	build	Compact, short, low on paws, massive chest; good muscles, massive shoulders and back.
LEGS		Short, thick and strong.
	feet	Big and round, firm, bit hair between toes.
TAIL		Short with lots of hair, little bit round at the top, must fit the body.
COAT	structure	Hairs long and dense, fine and soft of structure (not woolly), lots of hair cover shoulders and chest (a bit like a male lion).
	color	A lot are possible.
