cartoon cupExtra Criteria For Stand Alone Award Programs

These criteria are written with my own award program in mind.

* An award program needs to have a "purpose", which is preferably stated on the first page of the actual program. Next to that the first page should contain a brief explanation of what the evaluators are looking for in a site.

* The criteria should be easy to understand. They can be divided into the following sections: general criteria, disqualifiers (no evaluation when...), + (it is positive when...) and - (it is negative when...).

* The criteria need to be written in a positive way, with a brief explanation where needed. Next to that the criteria shouldn't be too long, because people easily loose there interest when they have to read too much.

* The system you use (the scoring system, whether or not you use a scoring sheet and so on), the process and the way winners and non-winners are notified should be described.

* There needs to be a page with descriptions of the evaluators and their qualifications.

* An award program should contain at least one (1) page with resources (the pages with resources can contain tutorials, links to sites with free graphics, and so on).

* An award program needs to contain a Code of Ethics.

* If a site is USA based, there should be a C.O.P.P.A. statement and link within the program.

* An award program gathers information from visitors, so it needs to display a Privacy Policy.

* There should be a copyright statement pertaining to all your work and your graphics. If they are not your own creations then credit must be given.

* There should be a page with the award graphics and their description.

* The winners lists can contain only links, but for the highest award something special should be be done, like a screenshot and / or a description.

* There should be a page with the ratings and listings of the award program.

* There should be a status page.

* There should be a page with the statistics of the program.

* A self test is recommended.

* A page with the history of the program is recommended.

These criteria are based on my own award program, so if you want to know more, just take a look at the pages of my program.
