pin   The Criteria (please read this page, it is necessary. If you have questions, feel free to e-mail me).

1. If you want to submit a site you need to be the webmaster of that site; only personal homepages can be submitted because I do not evaluate business sites; usually these kind of sites have too little of what I consider as content (see nr. 2).

2. Sites should contain quality content (reading material or art); not only pictures or links. This content should be interesting for the general public (like for example a good book or an encyclopedia). No "under construction" signs... a good site is always under construction.

3. Every site owner needs to abide copyright laws, they are international... Click here. And this also means that I will not evaluate unofficial fan sites.

4. If you are asking for visitors' (personal) details you need to have a privacy statement. When you have this statement you show visitors that you care about their privacy and they can be sure that nothing else is done with their personal details.

5. All internal links have to work, in the external ones a mistake is allowed because it is not always within your control.

6. Sites in English, Dutch or German can be evaluated. No other languages because these are the only languages I know.

7. Don't forget to mention at 'remarks' or in your e-mail the name of my horse (Rhea). Maybe a bit childish, but this way I will know that you really read the criteria.

8. When you have a flash intro there should be a 'skip' option. That way people can choose themselves whether they want to wait or not.

9. When you have music playing on your site there should be a way to turn it off. Music is not always appreciated so it is best to let your visitors choose whether they want to hear it or not.

10. There should be separate award pages where you display the awards you win. The link to those pages has to be easy to find. Do not display your awards clumped onto one page; I feel this practice shows no respect for the awards given to the site.

11. Your pages shouldn't take ages to load. If visitors have to wait too long they will leave your site and you don't want that, do you?

pin   It Is Positive When...

1. When your pages are pleasing to the eye. The colour of your text should be appropriate for the colour of your background, if not the pages might be difficult to read.

2. When the navigation is easy and clear to everyone. If you use a javascript applet, there needs to be an alternative text menu on the page, because not everyone can see such applets.

3. When all images have alt tags. Alt tags are important to people with text browsers and to visually impaired people. They may not be able to see the images, but with alt tags they know what the image is about.

4. When you give credit if you use something that is not yours (if you created something and (for example) I use it on my site, you wouldn't like it if I pretended that I made it myself, but that is what a person does when he or she doesn't give credit).

5. When you don't make people sign your guestbook to win one of your awards: signing a guestbook should be only on a voluntary basis.

pin   It Is Negative When...

1. When a site has too many broken links (more then 10). Too many broken links mean in my opinion that the site owner doesn't take enough care of his or her site.

2. When a site has fatal errors, visible HTML coding or applets that do not work. Sometimes there is a server problem, therefore I will try a couple of times.

3. When a site has more then 1 pop-up per page. There should be no pop ups other than those imposed by your server which are not within your control. Pop ups can be very annoying so if you have a choice, please no pop-ups.

4. When there is horizontal scrolling at a screen resolution of 800x600; a small change in the coding corrects this.

5. When your application is incomplete (see criteria).

pin   No Evaluation When... (disqualifiers)

1. When an applicant is 16 years or younger; an applicant should be at least 17 years or older to apply for one of my awards.

2. When a site contains porn, violence, foul or vulgar language, sexual innuendo's, hate, racist, Wicca, gambling, alcohol, drugs, occult or adult material. Any form of nudity is not artistic to me. There also should not be a link to any site from yours containing this type of material. I want to send you an award, I do not want to ignore you!

3. When a site requires downloads before I can view it (music, fonts, comet cursors, etc.). I want to be the one that decides what to download, and I don't want to download anything only for the reason of being able to view a site.

4. When a site is not fully accessible for everybody and requires a password or membership, because I cannot see what is on the protected pages and I want to be sure that the complete site is child safe.

5. When a site promotes warez or other illegal content, or when a site contains stolen stuff or copyright infringements. Why? I think that is clear to everybody...

6. When a site doesn't allow me to close my browser window or locks my browser, when a site crashes or freezes my browser or opens full screen and hides my taskbar. I don't have to explain why in this case no evaluation, I think...

7. When a site has hardly readable text or text like this: I DoN't LikE THaT. It is difficult to read for people with normal sight, but for visually impaired people or for people with dyslexia it is even more difficult.

8. When I notice that the criteria have not been read properly...
