Comment judge Sylvia Blok: my choice is the Genealogische website familienaam Boot. The site has a magnificent combination of colors, the colors fit superb with a genealogy site. It is great that the text adjusts when the visitor has a small monitor. The navigation works great and is very clearly arranged. Interview
1. What is your name and where do you live?
Ronald Boot, living in Oudenbosch, Noord-Brabant,
the Netherlands. But
I want to make clear that
I am just the designer of this website. The content is made by a whole team of people and in first place
I am proud of our teamwork
because I could never have made this happen without them.
2. How long you have been busy with websites?
Since 15 years but the last 3 years more
professionally.
3. What do you use to design and maintain your website?
A giant list of software but mostly: Macromedia Dreamweaver, Macromedia Fireworks, Swish Max for my flashwork and Adobe Illustrator.
4. What inspired you to built your website?
Well my own name is Boot and in 2004
I was in a wheelchair for a few months so
I just started looking for my ancestors and made a short list of them, about
a 100 persons I think. Meanwhile
I met a few friends on the net who also were busy with this investigation. We started to work together and this is the great result we achieved. Now there are almost 12000 persons in our genealogic database.
5. What is the purpose of your site?
To make the genealogy of this interesting family name visible for the people (all around the globe) that are interested, and assemble as much reliable information/history as possible.
6. What would you like to say to other web designers?
Try many different ideas, don't give up before you managed to work it out and always keep on updating your work to make it better and better. And for people that still use frames: please stop! :-)
7. What would you say to the awards community?
I am also a judge of the ATGP-award but just a rookie of course. But
I experienced it's sometimes difficult to be open for other ideas in web design and in my opinion you have to keep yourself open minded in this matter.
